We loved the Des Plaines River Trail (DPR) last summer so we figured it would be fun to check out another part of the trail with hopefully some fall colors. We headed a little further north to the Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville. At first, we couldn’t find the DPR trailhead so we just started walking around the lovely Lakeside trail.
After making our way around about half of the lake, we found a DPR sign and headed north through some woods and prairies for about 3 miles (and back).
This section of the trail is less woody but more bucolic (no whiffs of Olive Garden bread this time). All and all, a very midwestern-y day.
